Description

Sonamoti — meaning "golden pearl" — is a heritage wheat variety that is more than 4,500 years old. It's an ancient grain that had nearly disappeared for want of a buyer, until it was revived by working directly with traditional wheat growers across Uttar Pradesh and Bihar who had quietly kept cultivating it.

Better Nutrition SonaMoti Ancient Wheat Atta is made from handpicked, unhybridized heirloom Sonamoti wheat, grown by these traditional farming communities. We commit to their harvest even before it is sown, so growers can farm without the uncertainty of finding a buyer later. The wheat is 100% chemical-free and stone-ground, keeping the atta's deep, natural nutrition intact and fully traceable from farm to pack.

Each 100 g provides around 16 g of protein and 11 g of dietary fibre, along with naturally occurring Zinc (4 mg), Iron (5 mg), Calcium (35 mg) and Folic Acid (40 µg). Sonamoti also has a naturally lower glycemic index and is naturally low in gluten compared to regular wheat — though it is still a wheat grain, and not suitable for anyone with celiac disease or gluten intolerance.

Reviving this forgotten super-grain restores pure, unadulterated nutrition to everyday meals, the way it was grown before modern high-yield wheat varieties took over most fields. Every batch goes through multi-stage lab testing to guarantee purity and can be traced back to the farmers who grew it, via the QR code on the pack.

An ancient grain, revived a little differently—stone-ground, chemical-free, and traceable all the way back to the farmers of UP and Bihar who never stopped growing it.

TriNutrimaxx™️

Agronomic Biofortification is our farm-level technique for naturally increasing the nutritional value of crops by combining the right biofortified seed, nutrient-rich soil and precision agronomic practices through the crop cycle. Instead of adding nutrients after harvest, we work from the beginning of the farming process to help the plant access and retain higher levels of naturally occurring nutrients such as iron, zinc and protein. The approach integrates seed selection, soil and crop management, farmer protocols, and testing at harvest, creating a controlled seed-to-harvest nutrition system rather than relying on fortification at the food-processing stage!

Benefits

4,500-Year-Old Heritage Wheat

Sonamoti — the "golden pearl" — is an ancient, unhybridized wheat variety that had nearly vanished, now revived through direct partnerships with traditional growers across Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

Naturally High in Protein

Better Nutrition SonaMoti Atta provides approximately 16 g of protein per 100 g (6.8 g per 50 g serving), noticeably higher than most regular wheat atta.

Naturally Rich in Dietary Fibre

Each 100 g contains around 11 g of dietary fibre (4.4 g per 50 g serving), supporting healthy digestion as part of a balanced diet.

Contains Zinc, Iron & Calcium

This heirloom wheat naturally contains 4 mg Zinc, 5 mg Iron and 35 mg Calcium per 100 g, contributing to its deep, natural nutrient profile.

Rich in Folic Acid

Sonamoti naturally provides 40 µg of Folic Acid per 100 g, an essential B-vitamin, as highlighted on the pack.

Naturally Low Glycemic Index

Sonamoti wheat has a naturally lower glycemic index than regular wheat, meaning its carbohydrates are digested more gradually for steadier energy.

Naturally Low in Gluten

This heirloom variety is naturally lower in gluten than modern high-yield wheat. It is not gluten-free, however, and is not suitable for anyone with celiac disease or a diagnosed gluten intolerance.

100% Chemical-Free & Stone-Ground

Sonamoti is grown without chemical inputs and is stone-ground in the traditional way, preserving more of its natural nutrition compared to modern high-speed milling.

Unhybridized Heirloom Seed

We handpick ancient, unhybridized Sonamoti seeds, naturally carrying essential nutrients and low-gluten properties that modern hybrid wheat varieties have largely bred out.

Direct Partnership with Traditional Farmers

We partner closely with traditional farmers across Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, committing to their harvest before it is even sown, to sustain chemical-free, community-backed cultivation of this heritage grain.

Traceable from Farm to Pack

The QR code on the pack lets you discover the farmers who grew your atta, with multi-stage lab testing at every stage to guarantee purity and nutrient density.

What is Sonamoti wheat?-

Sonamoti, meaning "golden pearl," is a heritage wheat variety that is over 4,500 years old. It had nearly disappeared for want of a buyer and has been revived by working directly with traditional growers across Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

Why is it called the "golden pearl"?

The name Sonamoti translates to "golden pearl," reflecting the grain's rich, golden colour and its status as a rare, once-vanishing heirloom wheat.

Is Sonamoti atta biofortified?

No. Sonamoti is a naturally nutrient-rich, unhybridized heirloom variety, not a biofortified crop. Its protein, fibre and micronutrient content come from being an ancient, traditionally grown wheat rather than from biofortified seed breeding.

How much protein and fibre does Sonamoti atta contain?

Better Nutrition SonaMoti Atta provides approximately 16 g of protein and 11 g of dietary fibre per 100 g, along with naturally occurring Zinc, Iron, Calcium and Folic Acid.

Is Sonamoti atta gluten-free?

No. Sonamoti is naturally lower in gluten than regular wheat, but it is not gluten-free and is not suitable for anyone with celiac disease or a diagnosed gluten intolerance.

Is Sonamoti atta chemical-free

Yes. Sonamoti wheat is grown 100% chemical-free by traditional farmers across Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, as stated on the pack.

What does "stone-ground" mean for this atta?

Stone-grinding is a traditional, slower milling process that generates less heat than modern high-speed mills, helping to preserve more of the wheat's natural nutrients and flavour.

How do you use Sonamoti atta?

It can be used just like regular wheat atta — to make roti, paratha, puri, homemade bread, or even a warm wheat porridge or halwa.
