Description

Bajra (pearl millet) has been a cornerstone of Indian kitchens for centuries, especially across Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana and Maharashtra — a hardy, drought-resistant grain valued for its earthy flavour and warming, energy-dense nature through the winter months.

Better Nutrition Sprouted Bajra Atta takes our biofortified pearl millet a step further. Before milling, the grain is soaked and naturally sprouted — a traditional process that activates the seed's own enzymes and helps break down phytic acid, a naturally occurring compound in grains that can otherwise block the absorption of minerals like iron and zinc. The result is a flour that starts with naturally higher levels of these nutrients through biofortification and is easier for your body to absorb and digest.

Each batch is naturally gluten-free, and — like our regular Biofortified Bajra Atta — is naturally enriched with up to 2X more Zinc, higher Iron, plant Protein, and gut-nourishing Fibre (exact gram/mg values for this specific sprouted batch will be confirmed once lab testing is complete and printed on the pack). After sprouting, the grain is gently dried and stone-ground, a slower milling process that keeps more of its natural nutrition and earthy aroma intact, compared to high-speed modern mills.

Sourced from our network of farming communities trained in biofortified, sustainable agriculture, every batch is rigorously nutrient-tested and can be traced back to seed via the QR code on the pack.

Bajra, made a little differently—biofortified at the seed, and sprouted for better absorption.

TriNutrimaxx™️

Agronomic Biofortification is our farm-level technique for naturally increasing the nutritional value of crops by combining the right biofortified seed, nutrient-rich soil and precision agronomic practices through the crop cycle. Instead of adding nutrients after harvest, we work from the beginning of the farming process to help the plant access and retain higher levels of naturally occurring nutrients such as iron, zinc and protein. The approach integrates seed selection, soil, and crop management, farmer protocols and testing at harvest, creating a controlled seed-to-harvest nutrition system rather than relying on fortification at the food-processing stage!

Benefits

Biofortified Foundation — Naturally High in Zinc & Iron

Grown from our specially developed, biofortified pearl millet seeds, this atta naturally starts out with up to 2X more Zinc and higher Iron than ordinary bajra, consistent with the claim used on our regular Biofortified Bajra Atta.

Sprouted for Better Absorption

Sprouting is a traditional process known to reduce phytic acid, a natural compound that can bind to iron and zinc and limit how much the body absorbs. This means the minerals already present in biofortified bajra become easier for your body to use.

Naturally Gluten-Free

Pearl millet is naturally free of gluten, making this atta a suitable choice for those avoiding gluten in their diet.

Rich in Plant Protein

Provides naturally high plant protein — in line with our regular Biofortified Bajra Atta, which is described as rich in plant Protein — contributing to daily protein intake as part of a balanced diet (exact gram value per 100 g for this batch to be confirmed via lab testing).

Loaded with Dietary Fibre

Naturally high in dietary fibre, supporting healthy digestion and helping you feel fuller for longer.

Naturally Low-to-Moderate Glycemic Index

Pearl millet has a naturally lower glycemic index than refined wheat flour, meaning its carbohydrates are digested more gradually for steadier energy.

Chemical-Free & Non-GMO

Grown without chemical fertilisers, synthetic pesticides, or GMOs — as with all Better Nutrition biofortified grains.

Stone-Ground for Nutrient Retention

Sprouted and then stone-ground (chakki-milled), this atta retains more of its natural bran, nutrients and earthy aroma than flour milled using high-speed, high-heat processes.

Traceable from Farm to Pack

The QR code on the pack lets you trace this atta's journey from seed to sprouting to your kitchen, with batch-level nutrient testing along the way.

Shelf Life

Best Before: 4 months from the date of manufacture (when stored correctly).

Storage Instructions:

  • Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
  • After opening, transfer to a clean, airtight container to prevent moisture absorption and insect ingress.
  • Avoid storing near strong-smelling spices or foods — bajra flour can absorb odours.
  • In humid climates or during summer months, refrigerating the flour extends freshness significantly.
  • Once opened, best used within 30–45 days for optimal flavour, aroma, and nutrient content.

1. What is Sprouted Bajra Atta?

Sprouted Bajra Atta is made by soaking and sprouting whole pearl millet grains before they are dried and stone-ground into flour — a traditional process believed to improve nutrient absorption and digestibility compared to regular flour.

How is this different from Better Nutrition's regular Bajra Atta?

Both are grown from our biofortified pearl millet seeds, naturally higher in Zinc and Iron. This version is additionally sprouted before milling, a process that can help reduce phytic acid and make those minerals easier for the body to absorb.

Why does sprouting help with nutrient absorption?

Grains naturally contain phytic acid, which can bind to minerals like iron and zinc and reduce how much the body absorbs. Sprouting is a traditional process known to lower phytic acid levels, which may improve mineral bioavailability.

Is Sprouted Bajra Atta gluten-free?

Yes. Pearl millet is naturally gluten-free, making this atta suitable for those avoiding gluten in their diet.

Is Sprouted Bajra Atta good for iron deficiency or anaemia?

Bajra is a good plant-based source of iron, and sprouting may further improve how well that iron is absorbed. If you are managing anaemia or an iron deficiency, please consult your doctor for advice specific to your situation.

Is Sprouted Bajra Atta suitable for diabetics?

Pearl millet has a naturally lower glycemic index than refined wheat flour. If you are managing diabetes or blood sugar levels, it's best to check with your doctor or dietitian before making changes to your diet.

How do you use Sprouted Bajra Atta in cooking?

It can be used just like regular bajra flour — to make rotis or bhakri, porridge, dosas, khichdi, or gluten-free baked snacks. Since it lacks gluten, the dough is best hand-patted rather than rolled thin, or mixed with a little wheat flour for easier rolling.

Is Sprouted Bajra Atta chemical-free and Non-GMO?

Yes. Like all Better Nutrition biofortified grains, it is grown without chemical fertilisers, synthetic pesticides, or GMOs.
